What your Gulf licence does and does not do
A licence from the DHA, DOH, SCFHS or another Gulf authority is not one of Australia’s competent authorities, so it does not let you skip the AMC exams. Most Gulf-based doctors take the standard pathway. Your clinical experience still counts where it matters most — in job applications once you are eligible.
Your route from the Gulf
- Have your primary medical degree verified with your university through the AMC.
- Book the AMC MCQ with Pearson VUE at an available test centre.
- Meet the English requirement — especially important if your degree was taught in Arabic.
- Then the AMC clinical exam or a workplace-based assessment, and supervised practice in Australia.
Studying around Gulf shifts
Long shifts and rotating rosters make fixed study hours hard. Keep a daily minimum on your phone — 20 questions on a bad day, 50 on a good one — and let spaced repetition decide what you see. DuoVa keeps your whole bank on the phone, so it works on flights home too.
Study for AMC Part 1 with DuoVa
An ever-growing AMC Part 1 question bank, explained to current Australian guidelines — eTG and RACGP-based explanations, including why each wrong option is wrong. New questions every day, recall papers, spaced repetition, and it works offline. Paste a question from a group chat and DuoVa turns it into a proper one, answer and reasoning included.
Questions
- Can I use my DHA or Saudi licence to work in Australia?
- Not in place of the AMC exams. Gulf licensing authorities are not among Australia’s competent authorities, so most doctors in the Gulf take the standard pathway.
- Can I sit the AMC exam in the UAE or Saudi Arabia?
- The AMC MCQ is delivered by Pearson VUE at test centres in many countries. Check the centres available to you when you book.
